Do you recall Brutal Sports at all? Well for those of you who remember this Amiga classic game, it largely centred on not just the goals but on the damage and havoc caused to the opponents' team. Obviously this game has been cleaned up for younger players, so alas no heads falling off, but there are so many other things to keep you entertained.
What you must do is pick which animal you want to represent you and then play your way through the various colourful animal opponents and score as many goals as you can. To assist you in this task, there are various power-ups that appear and you can use these, much as you would in Mario Kart, to cause opponents to temporarily be immobilised.
The controls are very simple to play with, using a virtual d-pad to move around the pitch and select from shoot/switch player, tackle/use special and sprint.
I was going to give this game a pretty smashing rating as it's very fun, but on the last level it got stuck with the d-pad forcing my players to run like lemmings up the pitch in a straight line, which although was quite funny at first, it became pretty disastrous for my team tactics.
Putting this glitch aside, the rest of the game holds its own pretty well and to give you a fair chance to defend your goal it became a skilful game of tapping the ball when in flight.
Overall this is a pretty entertaining game and I'm sure if it was possible to get beyond the glitch that crippled my winning streak, it would be quite a lot of fun. It is certainly more simplistic than some football games, but it does offer a fair amount of challenges and was entertaining.
